So keeping custom assets to the lowest possible (ofc a few skins/objects doesn't hurt if the files are compressed properly) is the way to go. :)
My suggestion wasn't for donators getting the custom skin. Players with an obscene high level, meaning they've been here forever, could request the custom skin. However, that skin would be made available to players with Donator level 4, and not just be restricted to the player who requested the skin. With that, there'd be, not even half a dozen, maybe a dozen at most, skins requested. I'm not sure how many members are active, with a high level. But I doubt there's more than 20 above level 50 that currently play.

Edit: I just noticed that your comment wasn't exactly in response to mine, but the few after mine that mentioned donator levels getting them. Oh well, still clarifies what my suggestion was.
 
Yeah but as far as I know this topic still isn't about how to give the players these custom skins but what to give them. :cap:

Different styles of boomboxes(Bluetooth speakers) that can be selected in the electronics store.

New clothing items for house furniture, to fill in closets. Bongs, pipes, new dildos :thumbup:

Dog bots that follow the player around. :luvrcrp: Horses, cows, animals in general.

Missed one, varying hair colors etc for the skins, rather than just height/weight/clothes
Might be better to start with the skins we already have, than adding completely new ones with only 1 variation, and still having 90% of the players look the exact same.

Maybe you don't understand the ramifications of putting custom content on a SA-MP server, so let me lay it out for you. Providing mods for the server to use is no different than putting in work via the forums, creating maps and etc. Once any sort of content is sent to me or published on my forums, you relinquish all creative control over it. Why? It's simple, people depend on said content to be there once it's released. When these mods launch on the server, many players will expect these models to be there when they need them. Whether it's new furniture items, new buildings, new ped models, dozens of people will use them like they were standard game content. Being able to simply say "hey man take my shit off" would disrupt the gameplay of a lot of users, and that's not something I'm willing to risk. So yeah, once your content is provided to the general public of the server, all of your creative rights to it go out the window. If you don't like it, don't contribute. That's perfectly fine with me. One point a lot of people might be missing is once a mod is released via SA-MP server, anyone who downloads it can scrub through the server's cache folder and do what they want with your mods. It's shady as fuck, but it's not something that can be avoided. So even if your content was removed from the server, it would still be on the hard drives of hundreds of users.

I didn’t mean to sound like a complete asshole. I was simply having doubts on how exactly this would work between content creators and you. I know what this server has been through and the amount of work put into it to get to the point it is now. I know you would never do anybody dirty and proper credits would be given where it’s due. There must have been misunderstanding somewhere in the topic between me and some other folks.

Either way, thank you for clarifying things and I hope to see the server thrive more. This opens up doors to creative people to finally show off their skills.

So, what’s going to happen to those whom cannot run mods? Also, is the server gonna become fully moded to unplayable states? Or?

If you can contact the original author (who made the skin with blonde hair btw :cap: ) then if they agree, we can work it out. Otherwise we cannot add it because it is a public mod.
 
What about allowing players to request custom textures for their skins? You allow some sort of customization. You can have more skins for less size because you only need to add 1 dff for each SA:MP skin, everything else is just custom textures, this reduces the file size per 'custom textured skin' by about 1/3rd - especially if you end up adding lots of different textured skins for each dff the file size difference becomes more noticable. Everything remains low poly seeing as players would only be able to change textures.

I know it's being done on MTA servers, if I remember correctly they dont even have an approval process and it works great. You dont really need any modding skills either. When I still played on a MTA:SA roleplaying server I made my own custom textures for skin 214 that fit my feral child character better.

Hm... That's something to think about for sure.
I mean you decide script wise what the .dff loads in as a .txd, so multiple .txd's work I guess.
