Hey,

I wanted to change the name of one of my character while all of a sudden you are not allowed to pick regular American names. I've tried Thomas Leighton, William Brown, Lucas Brown and a couple of others but everytime I get denied by the fact that if you google the name something pops up.

Thomas Leighton was apparently a British soldier
William Brown was an admiral somewhere around 1700
Lucas Brown is a boxer.

I bet no one will recognize any of these names affiliated with the thing google pops up and I was told by a helper to pick something that is not too common. If I just want to roleplay as a normal civilian why am I forced to pick irregular names?

So my question, instead of whining, What are the specific namechange rules? Do I have to search for something that gives 0 results on google or what is allowed and what isn't?

Honestly I think some helpers are way too harsh with it. In my opinion as long as it isn’t Beyoncé Knowles level famous and you aren’t RPing yourself as the person then it shouldn’t matter.

its because everyones standard before /confirmname is

and as soon as they find something they deny it for it being "famous"

Exactly my point. Could we get some clarification on what is and what isn't allowed. Google is an amazing search engine butbit is that large that it also finds irrelevant information that you should judge yourself first.

Founder of the Argentine Navy, William Brown is considered a national hero in Argentina, with more than 1,200 streets named after him.
That's more than enough for me to deny your request. You can also go for a common name, however in most of the times they'll lead to it being somebody known. Now, I'm not saying that there shouldn't be possibly anything on Google, however let it not be the founder of the Argentine navy, and your request to name change will more than likely get accepted.

man William and Brown are very common names who cares who that guy is or was you realize there's not only 1 person with that name in the world anyway right

as long as your name isnt gustav ahr or something alike its ok

Rule 25 said:
YOU MAY NOT NAME YOUR CHARACTER AFTER A FAMOUS PERSON

This includes actors, movie characters, politicians, artists, athletes and so on.
We understand that people tend to have the same names in real life but it has been decided to not be allowed on the server for various reasons.

Punishment
Players found breaking this rule will be forced to immediately change the name of the character in question. Failure to do so may lead to severe punishment.

Rule 0 should come in play from the helper/admin accepting the namechange. If you chose a name thats the same as an artist from a couple of hundred years ago which no one knows, then I don’t see a problem. I think it’s more that some helpers are scared to accept names that are known/semi-famous because they don’t want to get in trouble for accepting a famous name.

There are some harsh helpers indeed, but sometimes do yourself a favour and don't just spend 5 seconds coming up with a name but do your research as well. ;)

That's just ridiculous. NOBODY here outside of Argentina is going to know that a man with the most English/American name out there founded the Argentine navy. You even had to google the man's name to figure out there was a story behind it, because you didn't know.
