Have you tried doing this as well, because you mentioned having other effect mods which might interfere with this one.
 
Yeah, I've used the original effects, the ones provided too. Used modloader for it, tried overwriting my core files too. Nothing.

Did a fresh install and it seemingly works now, thank you for trying to help folks.
