Level up's shouldn't need to be bought - That's completely bogus in a way, this server is aimed at becoming a heavy role play server, earning money in character to spend it on something that'd be classed as out of character is rather pointless. And the money doesn't go anywhere.

What about something like this:

Experience.

You start out at Level 1, and to get to level 2 you'd need 10 EXP points - How are these gained?

When someone obtains their hourly pay day they'd also be given one experience point, this would gradually add up to the required ten experience points that they need. They'd automatically level up to level two and a message would be displayed to them "You've reached level two". When this occurs they'd also see a message "You now have two upgrade points" there'd be a command available "/upgrade" this would display their health and strength and to upgrade it they'd do "/upgrade health" / "/upgrade strength" this means their gaining something IC and their keeping their money that they earned in character.

After they level up their Experience points are reset to zero how does this benefit? Well I looked at Ian's suggestion that he posted and I realised it's too easy for people to level up in this server, all they need to do is side job their way up. So with the experience points being reset after levelling up, they'd need to be heavily active to work towards the next total of experience points required to level up. This means people are more active and don't need to concentrate on becoming rich just to advance anywhere in the game. It'd be solely concentrating on role play and not having to worry because it'd all depend on their on line time.

Experience point suggestions.

Level 1 to Level 2 - 10 experience points (10 hourly pay days)
Level 2 to Level 3 - 15 experience points (15 hourly pay days)
Level 3 to Level 4 - 20 experience points (20 hourly pay days)
Level 4 to Level 5 - 25 experience points (25 hourly pay days)
Level 5 to Level 6 - 30 experience points (30 hourly pay days)
Level 6 to Level 7 - 35 Experience points (35 hourly pay days)
Level 7 to Level 8 - 40 Experience points (40 hourly pay days)
Level 8 to Level 9 - 45 Experience points (45 hourly pay days)
Level 9 to Level 10 - 50 Experience points (50 hourly pay days)
Level 10 to Level 11 - 55 Experience points (55 hourly pay days)
Level 11 to Level 12 - 60 Experience points (60 hourly pay days)
Level 12 to Level 13 - 65 Experience points (65 hourly pay days)
Level 13 to Level 14 - 70 Experience points (70 hourly pay days)
Level 14 to Level 15 - 75 Experience points (75 hourly pay days)
Level 15 to Level 16 - 80 Experience points (80 hourly pay days)
Level 16 to Level 17 - 85 Experience points (85 hourly pay days)
Level 17 to Level 18 - 90 Experience points (90 hourly pay days)
Level 18 to Level 19 - 95 Experience points (95 hourly pay days)
Level 19 to Level 20 - 100 Experience points (100 Hourly pay days)
Level 20 to anything else - Level 2 Donator. (Must already be at Level 20 though)

As you can see it means people can't make it up to level 5 in one day etc, it means that they actually have to be active to advance anywhere and it'd not be all achieveable in just one day, their experience points that they currently have would save when they log off and would continue when they log back in game, for example if someone logged off with 13 experience points, when they log back in, in two hours they'd have 15 experience points. But when they reach 15, and level up to level 3, they'd have 0 experience points and need to work their way up again.

- This wouldn't effect people's current levels

Advantages
  • New comers wouldn't be side jobbing like hell to try and make money in order to level up.
  • In correspondence with the above, new comers would be involving more in role play & being active more
  • More concentration on role play & less on levelling up
  • A better approach to levelling up as earning money In-Character to spend on an Out-Of-Character level up is retarded.

Disadvantages
  1. It will take longer to reach higher levels - which isn't really a bad thing.
