Introduction:

A lot of people have been mixing realistic robberies with jumping out of your car with three other people armed to the teeth lately. And while the money you get is not much, robberies can be fixated more on other things such as the roleplay and the In Character benefit as well as the things it could add to character development.

Robberies have been happening left and right in real life. From liquor stores, to 24/7s, to someone on the street and as it goes on it can even lead up onto a bank. This guide will only cover small time robberies.

Why perform a robbery?

The most important part is understanding that mugging people on the street is the last option for a criminal character. It is considered dangerous and people understand they will be arrested for little to no profit. Store robberies hold more profit but also more risk which is usually not worth it either, let alone banks who are these days impenetrable.
Before you go on to rob someone, ask yourself this question. How broke is my character right now? Does he have any other option of making money? Is he going to starve the next few days? Perhaps get hunted down by his drug dealer because he owes him money?

Now if your character is indeed up to the neck with debt or is about to starve and cannot find an alternative way, you're off to find people on the street. Note that you will never see a robbery happen within rich areas due to the protection they receive. However, low wage areas are commonly hit by people.

Different forms of robberies with different targets.

The simplest of robberies gang members do are essentially bunching up on a stranger and telling him to turn out his pockets. The infamous "Run your pockets foo". This tends to happen when someone has went into their turf or they just wish to get a reaction out of him which is mostly negative. There isn't much profit to it apart from a couple more beers for them that night.

Another form of robbing people on the street is walking up to them and showing that you are armed before following the same procedure. That or pointing the weapon through a jacket and the like to avoid any unwanted attention. Knives tend to have a similar method, meaning they remain concealed unless necessary. There's a little more profit in this since you are on your own. Sometimes people take cellphones and jewelry along with the money. It is not uncommon for robberies to happen next to an ATM machine where the robber waits for his victim to withdraw cash from his bank account and then goes for it.

Moving onto bigger things, you have small store robberies. These are often in the form of a "hit and run". You run in, point the gun at the clerk, get him to open the register, grab whatever you can and run out before anyone gets what just happened. There's usually a fair amount of profit in this for a small time criminal or someone who's completely broke which is why it is the most common form of robberies in real life. This usually happens around closing times and by no means in the middle of the day. These stores include liquor stores, 24/7 (a very frequent target since it is always open), so on and so forth.

High tier stores such as jewelry stores, high end clothing and stores and banks. These are almost never seen in the news anymore due to the security systems and the high risk they involve for a petty criminal. For the most part, people who go for this get caught if they do not know what they are doing. Since we are only focused on petty criminals in this guide, I will not go into detail in these since they are simply not an option for your character.

Robbing drug dealers.

Now here is where things become truly interesting if you wish to rob someone. Gangs and criminals have been robbing each other's drug dealers as long as they existed. No drug dealer can go up to the police and report the incident for obvious reasons and there is massive profit to be made. For the most part, people do not hit corner boys as they usually only have very small amounts. They wait to see who gives them the drugs and try to move up the structure as much as possible. It isn't uncommon for five to eight people to bust into a makeshift meth lab and pick wipe it clean before leaving. These are often, if not always, done by one or more people.

Robbing arms traffickers.

Don't. No. Bad.

An important thing to remember.

Last but not least, remember that NOBODY who's going out for a robbery is going to shoot at their victim if they run away. It's simply how it is. They went out to earn some money, not end up in prison with twenty five to life over a fifty bucks. This, for the most part, happens when the robber feels threatened, loses control or is not sober while performing the robbery.

Good guide, but wouldnt you rob a arms dealer? That makes no sence, if 3 armed or more people gather to rob one arms dealer, he cant do anything. People actually rob arms dealers to get guns from them. Even if the dealer is heavily armed, he couldnt go rambo on them, he would get shot, stabbed, beaten.

If you think about it then you'd know it's just stupid to even think about it. You never know who the arms trafficker is supplying, perhaps he's supplying your local gun dealer which will get you into trouble. This because the trafficker could get all his contacts to never sell anything to you again.

That or they simply go around and ask for your name, number or whatsoever and simply strike back with much bigger artillery.

TLDR;
just dont. dont even think about it. no.
